The IEEE 1394 driver (Msdv.sys) in Windows 2000 does not function properly in computer with more than 4 gigabytes (GB) of RAM that have Physical Address Extensions (PAE) enabled.

CAUSE

The Msdv.sys driver is unable to allocate the required memory resources in a PAE environment.

Disable PAE, or move the 1394 device to another computer that has less than 4 GB of RAM. To disable PAE:
  1. Using Windows Explorer, right-click the C:\Boot.ini file (where C: is the location of your system files), click Properties, click to clear the Read-Only check box if it is selected, and then click OK.
  2. Double-click the C:\Boot.ini file to open it with Notepad or the default text editor.
  3. Scan the Boot.ini file for the /PAE switch. Remove the switch from the line that is used to boot the computer.
  4. Save and then close the Boot.ini file.
  5. Restart your computer.
