This article was previously published under Q260513 SYMPTOMS When you install Microsoft Visual Studio products on a
Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer, you may see the following event viewer
error message: The description for Event ID ( 26 ) in
Source ( Application Popup ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have
the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages
from a remote computer. The following information is part of the event: 16 bit
Windows Subsystem, SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers. VDD.
Virtual Device Driver format in the registry is invalid. Choose 'Close' to
terminate the application... CAUSE This problem has one of the following causes:
- The wrong Virtual Device Driver is installed for the
operating system.
- The Virtual Device Driver is incorrectly
configured.
