The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project 2000

This article was previously published under Q260501

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, when you open a project that was saved while the Grouping feature was selected, #ERROR may be displayed in the Task Name field on the group summary row.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when either of the following two conditions is true.

Condition 1

  1. You use a formula in a custom field.
  2. You group the project to be based on the custom field, in either the Task Usage or Resource Usage view.
  3. You save and close the project.
  4. You open the project.

Condition 2

The formula for the field on which you grouped the project generates #ERROR.

WORKAROUND

Workaround for Condition 1

To work around this behavior, remove and then reapply the grouping for the view. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. On the Project menu, point to Group by, and then click No Group.
  2. On the Project menu, point to Group by, and then click Customize Group By.
  3. Click the arrow in the Field Name box, and then click the field that you want to group by.
  4. Click OK.

Workaround for Condition 2

Correct the formula error that is causing the #ERROR value to be displayed.

STATUS
