This article was previously published under Q260501 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Project, when you open a project that was saved while the Grouping feature was selected, #ERROR may be displayed in the Task Name field on the group summary row.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs when either of the following two conditions is true.
Condition 1- You use a formula in a custom field.
- You group the project to be based on the custom field, in either the Task Usage or Resource Usage view.
- You save and close the project.
- You open the project.
Condition 2
The formula for the field on which you grouped the project generates #ERROR.
WORKAROUNDWorkaround for Condition 1
To work around this behavior, remove and then reapply the grouping for the view. To do this, follow these steps:
- On the Project menu, point to Group by, and then click No Group.
- On the Project menu, point to Group by, and then click Customize Group By.
- Click the arrow in the Field Name box, and then click the field that you want to group by.
- Click OK.
Workaround for Condition 2
