"Object Doesn't Support This Property or Method" in Discover Windows Tutorial on Localized Windows 2000 (260365)

SYMPTOMS

When you run the Discover Windows tutorial on localized version of Windows 2000 Professional, you may receive the following error message:
Line: 14
Char: 3
Error: Object doesn't support this property or method
Code: 0
URL: File://D:\discover\open.htm
Note that the error message may be localized in other languages, but the meaning is the same.

CAUSE

Some of the Web pages in the tutorial are not localized.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Windows 2000 service pack that contains this hotfix.

To install this hotfix on the local hard disk:
  1. Start Registry Editor (Regedit32.exe).
  2. Locate and click the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup

  3. Add the following value:

    Value Name: SourcePath
    Data Type: REG_SZ
    Value: C:\WINNT

  4. Copy all of the files in the Discover folder from the Windows 2000 CD-ROM to the C:\Winnt\Discover folder.
  5. Replace the C:\Winnt\Discover\Misc\Var.htm and C:\Winnt\Discover\Music\Dm.htm files with the files from the hotfix.
  6. Remove the Windows 2000 CD-ROM from the CD-ROM drive, and then run Discover.exe again.
