Album, Artist, or Song Title Information Is Deleted from Windows 95 CD Player (260336)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 95
- Microsoft Windows 98
- Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition
This article was previously published under Q260336 SYMPTOMS
When you manually enter album, artist, or song title information for an audio CD-ROM in the CD Player tool in Windows 95/98, some previously entered information may be deleted.
CAUSE
This issue can occur after the Cdplayer.ini file contains 64 kilobytes (KB) of manually-entered data. Once this limit is reached, any additional manually-entered album, artist, or song title information is deleted in a First In, First Out (FIFO) manner.
MORE INFORMATION
The CD Player tool in Windows 95 includes the ability to enter album, artist, and song title information for an audio CD-ROM. This data is stored in the Cdplayer.ini file, and permits the CD Player tool to display the information the next time you play the CD-ROM.
The CD Player tool in Microsoft Windows 98 Plus! and Windows 98 Second Edition does not use .ini files to store audio CD-ROM information, and does not exhibit this behavior.
