XADM: How to Change the MSSEARCH Time-Out Value (260321)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
This article was previously published under Q260321 SYMPTOMS
When you perform full text indexing on a Microsoft Exchange 2000 server, you may run into a situation where the indexing process experiences a time-out. This can happen when you try to index a message that contains a large document, such as an .avi file.
CAUSE
The default time-out value for MSSEARCH is two minutes; if the indexer cannot get through the document in this time frame, it logs an error.
RESOLUTION
The only current way to change the time-out value is by means of the MSSEARCH Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in. Before you run the snap-in, you must first register Mssmmcsi.dll with the following command:
regsvr32 "C:\program Files\Common Files\System\MSSEARCH\Bin\mssmmcsi.dll"
The MSSEARCH snap-in is located at:
Program Files\Common Files\System\MSSEARCH\Bin\Srcadm.msc
Open it by right-clicking Srcadm.msc, and then clicking Open, or from any MMC session. The time-out values are located on the Timing tab of the properties of the
Search\ servername\ Exchange Server_name\Catalog Build Server node.
