The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q260308 Moderate: Requires basic macro, coding, and interoperability skills.
This article applies only to a Microsoft Access database (.mdb).
SYMPTOMS
When you try to import a Lotus 1-2-3 .wk1 file, you may receive the following Import Spreadsheet Wizard error:
The Microsoft Jet database engine could not find the object <filename>:. Make sure the object exists and that you spell its name and the path name correctly.
When you click OK, the table is not imported.
CAUSE
You have installed Microsoft Jet 4.0 Service Pack 4.
RESOLUTION
To work around this behavior, use the Lotus 1-2-3/DOS ISAM to import a .wk1 file. To do so, follow these steps:
-
On the File menu, point to Get External Data, and then click Import.
-
In the Import dialog box, browse to the folder where your .wk1 file is located.
-
In the Files of type box, click the arrow, and then click Lotus 1-2-3/DOS (*.wj*) in the list that appears. Your .wk1 file appears in the Import dialog box.
-
Click your .wk1 file, and then click Import. Note that the Import Objects dialog box appears and that the name of your .wk1 file appears two times: the first time without a colon after the file name, and the second time with a colon after the file name.
-
Click the first occurrence of the file name, and then click OK. Note that the file is imported.
NOTE: If you were to click the second occurrence of the file name (the one that ends in a colon), you would see the error described in the "Symptoms" section of this article.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Jet 4.0 Service Pack 4.
