FIX: The Msdis110.dll File Is Not Updated by the Installation of Windows NT 4 Service Pack 4 (260140)

SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4, the Msdis110.dll file is not updated.

CAUSE

The reason for this problem is that a recent file version is already installed on the operating system.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install the latest service pack for Visual Studio 6.0.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This bug was corrected in the latest service pack for Visual Studio 6.0. Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. Install Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 Enterprise Edition on a system with Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 3.
  2. Search for the version number of the Msdis110.dll file.
  3. Install the Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4.
  4. Search for and view the properties of the Msdis110.dll file, and note the version. The Msdis110.dll file is not upgraded during the Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4 installation.
