This article describes the Text Only with Line Breaks file format. Word versions 5.0, 5.1, 6.0, 6.0.1 and 98

  1. On the File menu, click Save As.
  2. If you want to retain the formatted document, type a new name for the text document.
  3. In the Save File as Type list, click Text Only with Line Breaks.
  4. Click Save.

Word versions 4.0 and 3.x

  1. On the File menu, click Save As.
  2. If you want to retain the formatted document, type a new name for the text document.
  3. Click File Format.
  4. Click to select "Text Only with Line Breaks." Click OK.
  5. Click Save.
