Word versions 6.0, 6.0.1, and 98

In Word versions 6.0 and later, you can use the organizer to copy styles from documents or templates. To merge styles created in a Microsoft Word for Macintosh document with those in another document, open the document to which you want to copy the styles and follow these steps:

  1. On the Format menu, click Style.
  2. Click Organizer.
  3. On the To: side of the dialog, click Close File to close the file listed. The Close File button changes to an Open File button. Click Open File.
  4. Select or type in the name of the file from which you would like to copy styles. You can choose Word Document or Document Template from the List Files of Type box.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Select the style or styles you would like to copy to your open document and then click Copy. Click Yes or click Yes to All when prompted to overwrite existing styles.
  7. When you have copied all the styles you want, click Close.

Word versions 3.x, 4.0, 5.0, 5.1

  1. Open the new document.
  2. On the Format menu, click Styles (Define Styles in Word versions 3.x and 4.0).
  3. With the Styles dialog box open, click Open on the File menu and select the document from which you want to import styles.
  4. Click OK.
The styles from the older document are now included in the new document.

Caution: All incoming styles will replace styles of the same name in your new document.
