SYMPTOMS
When you send several messages in quick succession to a target computer by using the
net send command, you may receive the following error message:
The message alias could not be found on the network.
CAUSE
This problem can occur because the Messenger service delays reposting a listen for 5 seconds after responding to a request, and any request that is sent to the computer before the listen is reposted causes the error message to be displayed. Also, the problem described in this article only occurs under the following conditions:
- When you send multiple messages to a specific target computer in quick succession.
- When the target computer has correctly registered the <03> NetBIOS name.
RESOLUTION
A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article.
