SYMPTOMS

When you try to use the online Help feature in any of the Microsoft programs listed at the beginning of this article, the program may stop responding (hang).

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the Microsoft HTML Help files are damaged or missing.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue:
  1. Download and install the latest version of Microsoft HTML Help. For additional information and instructions about how to do so, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=14188

  2. Click Save this program to disk, and then click OK.
  3. Under Save In, click Desktop, and then click Save.
  4. Click Close.
  5. After the download is finished, disconnect from the Internet, and then double-click the HTMLHELP.EXE file.
  6. Follow the instructions on the screen to install the HTML Help Workshop 1.3 Update.
