You can customize the appearance of the desktop on your Windows Millennium Edition (Me), Windows 98, or Windows 95-based computer. For example you can alter the background picture (wallpaper), the default colors, the displayed font sizes, and so on. Under some conditions, it may be useful to return the desktop settings to the original settings. This articles describes how to restore your original desktop settings.

Windows Me, Windows 98, and Windows 95 provide a standard group of settings for the desktop and background. These settings are Windows Standard for the desktop, and None for the background picture or image. To restore these original desktop settings:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Display.
  2. Click the Background tab. In Windows 98, click None in the Select an HTML Document or a picture box. In Windows 95, click None in the Wallpaper box.
  3. On the Appearance tab, click Windows Standard in the Scheme box, and then click OK.
  4. Restart your computer.
