When you try to enable Active Desktop in Windows 2000 Server, the option is not available. If you right-click the desktop, the Active Desktop option does not appear on the menu. In the Folder Options tool in Control Panel, the Enable Web content on my desktop option is unavailable on the General tab.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if Terminal Services is installed on the Windows 2000-based server and the Disable Active Desktop option is enabled for Terminal Services clients in the Terminal Services Configuration tool.
When this option is enabled, the Active Desktop settings are also disabled on the local computer.
RESOLUTION
To be able to view Active Desktop content on the Windows 2000-based server with Terminal Services installed, enable the Active Desktop for the Terminal Server clients. To do this:
- Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Terminal Services Configuration.
- In the Terminal Services Configuration tool, click Server Settings in the left pane. Client configuration options will appear in the right pane. Right-click Active Desktop, and then click Enable, or double-click Active Desktop, and then click to clear the Disable Active Desktop check box. Click OK.
- Log the current user off the Windows 2000-based server, and then log back on for the change to take effect.
STATUS
The behavior is by design.
