Error Message Copying Files to a 720-KB Disk After Formatting It (258952)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to copy files to a 720-KB floppy disk immediately after performing a full format on the disk, you may receive the following error message on a blue screen:
Cannot write to drive A:
Depending on the number of files being copied, pressing ENTER to continue may generate the same error message. Eventually, the files are copied to the floppy disk and their contents remain intact.

WORKAROUND

Copy the files to the newly formatted 720-KB floppy disk after restarting Windows 98.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
