This article describes the log files, MSDTC.LOG and DTCXATM.LOG, that are used by Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MSDTC).

NOTE: DTCXATM.LOG does not exist on Microsoft Windows 2000.

MSDTC service uses the DTCXATM.LOG and MSDTC.LOG files to record its actions and manage transactions. These files are located in the %Systemroot%\System32\DTCLog folder. The files are encrypted, and the format of the file is not made public. In addition, these files cannot be interpreted by external programs other than MSDTC.
