This article was previously published under Q258880 SYMPTOMS
When you start Internet Explorer or Outlook Express with other programs running in the background, the background programs may lose some of their colors. This occurs when Internet Explorer or Outlook Express is the active program.
CAUSE
Internet Explorer works with a 24-bit palette (16 million colors). When it is reduced to only 256 colors on any platform, palette switching occurs because the palette being used to render a Web site or page does not match most of the 240 colors chosen by the operating system when it is running in only 256 colors.
STATUS
This behavior is by design.
MORE INFORMATION
There is no setting that causes Internet Explorer to use a fixed system palette.
