Note All Microsoft IntelliMouse pointing devices use the IntelliPoint software.MORE INFORMATION To install a Microsoft pointing device, install the
IntelliPoint software. Then, connect the pointing device to
the computer. To do this, use the following methods in the order that they appear in. Install the IntelliPoint Software To install the IntelliPoint software, use one of the following
methods. Download from the Internet To download and install the latest version of the IntelliPoint
software, follow these steps:
- Visit the following Microsoft Web site:
- On the left side of the screen, click Resources, and then click Download Software.
- Type Product Information, and then click GO.
- Click the software link to download the software.
- Click Run this program from its current location, and then click OK.
- Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to install the
IntelliPoint software.
- Restart the computer.
Install the software from the CD To install the IntelliPoint software from the CD included
with your pointing device:
- Insert the Microsoft IntelliPoint Setup CD into your
CD drive.
If IntelliPoint Setup does not start automatically, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Run, type the following line in the Open box, and then click OK: In this example, cd-rom is the drive letter for
your CD drive.
- Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to install the
IntelliPoint software.
- Restart the computer.
Install a Microsoft pointing device To install a Microsoft pointing device, use the appropriate
method for your pointing device. Connect a Universal Serial Bus (USB) IntelliMouse to the computer To connect a USB IntelliMouse pointing device to the computer, follow these steps:
- Start the computer.
- If the PS/2 adapter is connected to the USB connector on
your IntelliMouse pointing device, remove it.
- Locate an available USB port on your computer or USB hub.
- Plug the USB connector for your IntelliMouse pointing
device into an available USB port on your computer or on a USB hub that is
connected to your computer.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to install and
configure your IntelliMouse pointing device.
Connect a PS/2 IntelliMouse to a serial port on the computer To connect a PS/2 IntelliMouse pointing device to a 9-pin serial
port on the computer, follow these steps:
- Turn off the computer.
- To connect one of the following IntelliMouse PS/2 pointing
devices to a 9-pin serial port on your computer, connect the serial adapter to
the PS/2 connector for your pointing device:
- Microsoft IntelliMouse
- Microsoft IntelliMouse Pro
- Microsoft IntelliMouse Trackball
- Microsoft Wheel Mouse
- Plug the serial adapter for your IntelliMouse pointing
device into the rectangular 9-pin serial port on the back of the computer.
- Turn on the computer.
- Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to install and
configure the IntelliMouse pointing device.
Connect a Microsoft wireless pointing device to the computer To connect a Microsoft wireless pointing device to the computer, follow these steps:
- On the bottom of the Microsoft wireless pointing device, open and remove
the battery compartment door.
- Insert two fresh batteries into the battery
compartment. Make sure that you point the positive (+) ends of the batteries
toward the positive contacts in the battery compartment.
Note Two batteries are included with a Microsoft wireless pointing device.
- Replace and close the battery compartment door.
- Make sure that the channel switches on the bottom Cordless
Mouse and the Digital Receiver are set to use the same channel.
Note If you use two Microsoft Cordless Wheel Mice, make sure that the
second Microsoft wireless pointing device and the Digital Receiver are set to use a different
channel than the first Microsoft wireless pointing device and Digital Receiver. - Shut down and turn off the computer.
- Plug the PS/2 connector for the Digital Receiver into the
round PS/2 mouse port on the back of the computer.
- Turn on the computer.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to install and
configure your IntelliMouse pointing device.
Note When you travel, remove the batteries from the Microsoft wireless pointing device before you board any aircraft. The Microsoft wireless pointing device emits radio frequency (RF) energy when the batteries are installed,
even if the mouse is turned off. For more information about radio
interference and the correct handling and storage of batteries, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft
Hardware, point to Mouse, and then click Online User's
Guide.
- On the Contents tab, click the Plus Sign (+) next to Setting Up Your Mouse or Trackball to
expand the branch.
- Under the Setting Up Your Mouse or
Trackball branch, click Important Radio Interference and
Battery Information for Microsoft Wireless Mouse.
