256986 Description of the Microsoft Windows Registry

SUMMARY

By default, the Exchange 2000 Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP) Service allows articles that are up to 30-days old to be pulled. For example, if you configure a pull feed, and specify to pull articles for the last four months, only articles within the last 30 days are accepted because of this default value.

MORE INFORMATION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

If you want to allow articles to be pulled that are older than 30 days, you need to manually add a registry key that defines the time frame for which articles are accepted. To add this value, follow these steps:
  1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
  2. Locate the following key in the registry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\NNTPsvc\Parameters

  3. On the Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following registry value:

    Value Name: ArticleTimeLimit
    Data Type: REG_DWORD
    Value: 2592000

  4. Quit Registry Editor.
Note: The value is an integer that defines in seconds how old an article can be for the NNTP to accept it. The value of 2592000 corresponds to 30 days, which is the default value. For example, to allow the acceptance of articles up to 60-days old, you would enter the value 5184000.
