This article describes how to remotely administer Proxy Server 2.0 from Windows NT 4.0 Workstation.
RESOLUTION- Install Windows NT 4.0 Workstation.
- Install Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 3. Do not install a Service Pack later than Service Pack 3 at this point.
- Install Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01.
- Install Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack with only the following options:
- Windows NT Option Pack Common Files
- Microsoft Management Console
- View the subcomponents of Microsoft Personal Web Server and click to select the Internet Service Manager check box.
You can safely ignore any message that you get when you clear the check boxes for other components.
- Restart the computer.
- Start the Setup program for Proxy Server 2.0.
- Click Install the Administration Tool. Do not select any other options.
- Copy the following files from the %SystemRoot%\System32\Inetsrv folder to the %SystemRoot%\System32 folder:
Mspip.dll
W3pcfg.dll
Wspcfg.dll
Socksfg.dll
Note that simply adding the %SystemRoot%\System32\Inetsrv folder to the PATH environment variable is not sufficient.
- Install the latest version of Microsoft Management Console. This is available at the following Microsoft Web site:NOTE: Do not restart the computer when this step is complete.
- Install Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 6a.
- Restart the computer.
- Start Internet Service Manager. To do so, click Start, click Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack, and then click Personal Web Server.
- Mark the Internet Information Server. Right-click the server, and then click Connect. Type the name of the remote Proxy server or its IP address. Note that that you must have sufficient administrator rights on the Proxy Server 2.0-based computer with the account you use.
Note that marking Microsoft Transaction Server and right-clicking produces the error message "Snap-in failed to initialize." This occurs because Microsoft Transaction Server is not installed. Connecting to a remote Transaction server is not possible.
