To troubleshoot this issue, use the following methods in
the order in which they are presented.
Quit Unnecessary Programs
Quit all unnecessary programs that are running on your computer
before you start Greetings or Home Publishing. To do this:
- Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE.
- In the Close Program dialog box, click any program except Explorer or Systray, and then click End Task.
If you receive a message stating that the program is
busy or not responding, click End Task again. - Repeat steps 1 and 2 to quit all programs except Explorer and Systray.
If the issue continues to occur, restart the computer.
If the issue still continues to occur, proceed to the next method.
Clean Boot the Computer
Clean boot the computer to determine if the issue is caused by a
command or a driver that starts automatically when you start the computer. To
do this, use the appropriate method for your version of Microsoft Windows.
Microsoft Windows 98
- Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type msconfig, and then click OK.
- Click Selective Startup, and then click to clear the following check boxes:
- Process Autoexec.bat file
- Process Config.sys file
- Process Winstart.bat file
- Load startup group items
Note If any of these check boxes are unavailable, the related file is
empty or does not exist. - Click the Win.ini tab.
- Double-click the Windows folder.
- Click to clear the load= and the
run= check boxes.
- Click OK.
- When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.

Microsoft Windows 95

If the issue continues to occur, proceed to the
next method.
Use Clip Gallery to Import Images
If the issue occurs when you import or work with an image that is
not included with Greetings or Home Publishing, add the image to Clip Gallery
before you import it into your project.
To do this:
- Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft
Clip Gallery, and then click Microsoft Clip Gallery.
- Click Import Clips.
- In the Look in box, click the folder that
contains the image that you want to import.
- Click the image that you want to import, and then click Import.
- In the Description of this clip box, type
a description of the image.
- Click the Categories tab, and then click to select the check box for each category in
which you want to include the image.
- Click the Keywords tab, and add any keywords that you want to use when you search
for the image in Clip Gallery. To add a keyword:
- Click New Keyword.
- In the Enter new keyword box, type a
keyword, and then click OK.
- Click OK.
- Quit Clip Gallery.
- Open your project in Greetings or Home Publishing, and then
use Clip Gallery to insert the image.

If the issue continues to occur, proceed to the
next method.
Open a Different Project or Create a New Project
Open a different project or create a new project.
If
the issue continues to occur, the original project is probably not damaged.
If the issue does not occur in the new project, the original project
may be damaged. If this is the case, re-create the project.
If the
issue continues to occur, proceed to the next method.
Remove Infrequently Used Fonts from the Fonts Folder
You may be able to resolve this issue by removing infrequently
used fonts from the Fonts folder.
Note The number of fonts that you need to remove varies depending on
the configuration of your computer. In most cases, this issue does not occur if
fewer than 500 fonts are installed in the Fonts folder. However, this issue has
been reported with as few as 300 fonts installed in the Fonts folder.
To check the number of fonts that are installed on your computer:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Fonts.
- On the status bar at the bottom of the Fonts window, note the number of fonts that are installed on your
computer.

If the issue continues to occur, proceed to the
next method.
Check the Configuration of Your Printer
Make sure that the printer is connected properly to your
computer, and that the correct printer is configured to be the default printer:
- Make sure that the printer cable is connected properly to
both the printer and the printer port in your computer.
- Click Start, point to Settings then click Printers.
- Verify that a check mark appears on the icon for your
printer.
If no check mark appears on the icon for your printer,
right-click the icon, and then click Set as Default.
If the issue continues to occur, contact the manufacturer of
your printer to inquire about how to obtain and install the latest version of
the printer driver for your printer.

To work around this issue if you use an Epson
Stylus printer, install either the Epson Stylus Color ESC/P2 printer driver or
the Epson LQ 2550 printer driver, and then configure it to be the default
printer.

To work around this issue if you use a different
printer, install a dummy printer driver (such as a Hewlett-Packard Deskjet
550C), and then configure it to be the default printer. When you are ready to
print your project, click
Print on the
File menu, click the correct printer in the
Name box under
Printer, and then click
OK.
If the issue continues to occur, proceed to the next
method.
Set Graphics Hardware Acceleration to Full
Make sure that the Graphics Hardware Acceleration setting is set
to Full:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click System.
- Click the Performance tab, and then click Graphics.
- Move the Hardware acceleration slider all
the way to Full (the All accelerator functions setting).
- Click OK, and then click OK again.
- If you are prompted to restart the computer, do so.
If the issue continues to occur, proceed to the next method.
Install the Latest Version of Your Video Driver
Contact the manufacturer of your video adapter to inquire about
how to obtain and install the latest version of the video driver for your video
adapter.
