"Administrator Client Could Not Connect to the Server" Error Message in Proxy Server (258719)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0, you may receive the following error message:
The administrator client could not connect to the server, please check that the administrative service is running, the server is online and that you have proper administrative privileges.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if the host name is different than the NetBIOS name on the Proxy Server.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the following steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Network.
  2. On the Protocols tab, click TCP/IP.
  3. On the DNS tab, change the host name to match the NetBIOS name.
  4. Restart the server.
