The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0

This article was previously published under Q258698

SYMPTOMS

If the Winsock Proxy 2.0 client is installed on a Microsoft Exchange 5.5-based server that is configured to use the Microsoft Exchange Internet Mail service, new mail notification may stop working.

CAUSE

The socket address value is corrupted while the SendTo call is in progress. This causes the Exchange store's notification thread to stop notifying clients of new mail.

The English version of this fix should have the following file attributes or later:
Date Time Version Size File name Platform
   ------------------------------------------------------------

   06/14/2000 14:05 2.0.390.16 262,416 Wspwsp.dll Alpha

   06/14/2000 14:06 2.0.390.16 141,072 Wspwsp.dll Intel

In order to update the Proxy 2.0 Client on the Exchange Server with the problem the fix will need to be applied to the Proxy 2.0 Server. Once the fix is applied, the Proxy 2.0 Client will need to be reinstalled on the Exchange Server from the updated client share on the Proxy Server (<\\<servername>\mspclnt>).

WORKAROUND

If you move the Exchange store to a server that does not have the Microsoft Proxy client installed, new mail notification works. The Microsoft Exchange Internet Mail service stays on the computer with the Proxy client installed.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
