SUMMARY

If the standard method of uninstalling Microsoft Personal Web Server 2.0 does not work, it may become necessary to manually uninstall it.

Note that this situation may occur after you install Personal Web Server 4.0 on a system that already has Personal Web Server 2.0 installed.

MORE INFORMATION

To manually uninstall Personal Web Server 2.0, search for and delete any Msweb*.* files. Typically, you should find nine files. These files are:

Mswebab.dll
Mswebapi.dll
Mswebcpl.cpl
Mswebcpl.hlp
Mswebndi.dll
Mswebsp.vxd
Mswebdvd.dll
Mswebsvr.ini
Mswebndi.exe

NOTE: You must restart your computer in MS-DOS mode to delete the Mswebapi.dll file. If you do not, Windows reports that the file is in use.

If you also have Personal Web Server 4.0 installed, you should also search for and delete and Pws*.* files. After you delete the files, reboot the computer. Then, reinstall Personal Web Server 4.0 and reboot the computer. This should completely remove Personal Web Server 2.0 from the computer.
