Site Server Search Fails When You Use Large Catalog Files (258596)

SYMPTOMS

When you use large catalog files, Site Server Search may fail. This can occur when Site Server Search runs out of virtual bytes. You can view virtual bytes in Performance Monitor in the Virtual Bytes counter in the process object.

CAUSE

Large catalog files cause Site server search to reserve large quantities of virtual memory. If Site Server Search runs out of virtual addresses, it will eventually fail.

RESOLUTION

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Site Server 3.0. This problem was first corrected in Site Server 3.0 Service Pack 4.
