XADM: IFS Shares Disappear After You Restart Exchange 2000 (258550)

SYMPTOMS

If you share any Installable File System (IFS) volumes or folders (drive M by default), these shares do not reappear after you restart your Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server computer.

CAUSE

IFS loads after the Microsoft Windows 2000 Server process, therefore, Windows 2000 has no way of permanently retaining any IFS share information.

WORKAROUND

You can write a small batch file that automatically re-creates the shares that you previously created.

For example, say that the IFS drive (drive M) is shared out as Public before you restart the Exchange 2000 server. To automatically re-establish this share, a sample batch file may look something like the following:
