Works Suite 2000: Problems Installing the Office 2000 SR-1 Update (258426)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to install the Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1 (SR-1) Update, you may receive the following error message:
The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available. Insert the Microsoft Word 2000 disk and click OK.
When you click OK, you receive a second error message stating that you did not insert the correct CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. You are again prompted to insert the Microsoft Word 2000 disk and click OK.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the following conditions are true:

  • You installed Microsoft Word 2000 from the Microsoft Works Suite 2000 CD-ROM set.

  • The original version of Windows Installer is installed on your computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, update the version of Windows Installer that is installed on your computer, and then reinstall the Office 2000 SR-1 Update.

To update the version of Windows Installer that is installed on your computer, visit the appropriate Microsoft Web site for your operating system:

Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98

Microsoft Windows NT 4.0

NOTE: This issue does not occur on Microsoft Windows 2000-based computers.

After you install the updated version of Windows Installer, reinstall the Office 2000 SR-1 Update.

When you are prompted to insert the Microsoft Word 2000 CD-ROM, insert the Works Suite 2000 Disc 1 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then follow the instructions on the screen to install the Office 2000 SR-1 Update.

NOTE: If you are using an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) version of Works Suite 2000, please refer to your computer manufacturer to determine the location of Works Suite 2000 Disc 1 on your recovery disk.
