FP2000: Subweb Inherits Permissions When Set to Use Unique Permissions (258254)

The information in this article applies to:

  • FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions from Microsoft

This article was previously published under Q258254

SYMPTOMS

When you open a subweb in Microsoft FrontPage 2000, the Settings tab in the Permissions dialog box shows that the subweb is inheriting permissions from the root web, even though you set it to use unique permissions. You are not able to make any permissions changes to the subweb.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you open a subweb that has capitalization that is different than that of the userealm value in the Access.cnf for that Web, for example: UseRealm:/Subweb. The Access.cnf file can be found in the hidden folder _vti_pvt. In this case you should open the Web by using a capital S in Subweb. Another option is to rename this value to: UseRealm:/subweb and then use lowercase when you open the Web. The change to Access.cnf takes effect immediately.

WORKAROUND

Open the Web by using the same capitalization as the actual folder that contains the subweb.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions.
