XFOR: You Receive an NDR After Sending Message from Lotus Notes if Contact Name Has a Space (258091)

Lotus Notes clients may be unable to send messages to a Microsoft Windows 2000 contact if the contact was created using a trailing space after the name. The following is an example of a contact name with a trailing space
Jane Doe /First Administrative Group/ORG@Notes_Domain
where ORG is the Microsoft Exchange organization, and Notes_Domain is the domain by which all Exchange recipients are addressed from within the Notes environment.
When Notes clients select the Windows contact from their global address list, they receive a non-delivery report (NDR) that may be similar to the following:
Invalid / Unknown recipient [MAPI] Reason Code: 1, MAPI Diagnostic Code 1]
CAUSE
When the Windows contact is replicated to Lotus Notes by running directory synchronization (dirsync), the trailing space is removed during the process. After running dirsync, the contact name appears in Notes, as in the following:
Jane Doe/First Administrative Group/ORG@Notes_Domain
When a Notes client sends a message to this contact, the Exchange 2000 Server computer is unable to resolve the Notes proxy address and rejects the message.
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, delete the trailing space from the contact name and then rerun dirsync with Lotus Notes.
