SYMPTOMS
If a distributed transaction is aborted and one of the participants is executing an extended stored procedure or T-SQL server-to-server remote stored procedure call (RPC) command, various types of assertions and access violations (AV) may occur some of which can result in a server shutdown.
WORKAROUND
Avoid using an extended stored procedure or T-SQL RPC in a distributed transaction.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server 7.0. This problem has been corrected in U.S. Service Pack 3 for Microsoft SQL Server 7.0.
