SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade from Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition with a working Hewlett-Packard (HP) 5200C scanner with HP Precision Scan software, the scanner is displayed in the Scanners and Cameras folder with "#2" as part of its name, even though there are no other scanners.

RESOLUTION

No functionality is lost for the device; only the name is incorrect. You can rename the scanner by right-clicking it in the Scanners and Cameras folder, clicking Rename, and then removing "#2" from the name.
