APM Error in Suspend Mode After Suspending and Resuming Many Times (257866)

When you attempt to place a Windows 98-based computer in Suspend mode after suspending and resuming more than 1,000 times, you may receive any of the following error messages:
APM error
System Standby message error
This condition occurs when infrared support is enabled and you toggle the mode with the computer power on. After you receive the error message, you can no longer place your computer in Suspend mode.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
