After you start Visio 2000, you may receive one of the following error messages:
A device attached to the system is not functioning - VisioUI.dll is linked to missing export Mfc42.dll
A device attached to the system is not functioning - VisioUI.dll is linked to missing export Mfc42.dll: 6880
CAUSE
When you install Visio 2000, some system files need to be updated. If other programs (such as virus protection programs) are running, some system files may not be properly updated, and unexpected errors may occur. The program that controls the system update, Mssup.exe, does not display error messages if any errors occur.
RESOLUTION
To resolve the problem, reinstall SPCore.msi.
To reinstall SPCore.msi:- Make sure no other programs are running on your computer, including virus protection programs.
- Open the Install\bin\sp\SPCore folder on the Visio 2000 CD.
- Right-click the SPCore.msi file, and then click Uninstall to uninstall the program from your computer.
- When the program is successfully uninstalled, right-click the SPCore.msi file again, and then click Install to reinstall the program to your computer.
