WD2000: Netscape Navigator Quits When You View Web Page Created in Microsoft Word (257537)

SYMPTOMS

In Netscape Navigator, when you view a Web page created in Microsoft Word, you may receive one of the following error messages, and Netscape Navigator may quit:
  • In Microsoft Windows 95/98:
    This program has performed an illegal operation
    and will be shut down.

    If the problem persists, contact the program
    vendor.
    When you click Details, you receive the following error message:
    NETSCAPE executed an invalid instruction in module <unknown> at 0000:00000017.
    -or-
  • In Microsoft Windows 2000:
    netscape.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows.
    You will need to restart the program.

    An error log is being created.
    To view the error log, point to Search on the Windows Start menu, and then click For Files or Folders. In the Search for files and folders named box, type drwtsn32.log and click Search Now. After the file is found, right-click Drwtsn32 (Drwtsn32.log) and then click Open on the shortcut menu.

RESOLUTION

This problem is known to occur with Netscape Navigator version 4.08. To correct this problem, upgrade your Netscape Navigator Web browser to a later version (for example, Netscape Navigator version 4.7).
