After you link to a Microsoft Excel 2000 chart in Microsoft Word 2000 or Microsoft PowerPoint 2000, the chart may be truncated.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
- You copy an Excel chart sheet.
- You switch to Word or PowerPoint.
- You click Paste Special on the Edit menu and then click Paste Link in the Paste Special dialog box.
- Your computer is running Microsoft Windows NT version 4.0 or Microsoft Windows 2000.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, use one of the following methods before you copy the chart. NOTE: After you use one of these methods, the chart is not truncated when you use the Paste Link command.
Method 1: Select "Sized with Window"- In Microsoft Excel , click to activate the chart on the chart sheet.
- On the View menu, click Sized with Window.
Method 2: Move the Chart to a Worksheet as a Chart Object- In Microsoft Excel, click to activate the chart on the chart sheet.
- On the Chart menu, click Location.
- In the Chart Location dialog box, click the As object in button.
- In the box to the right of As object in, select the worksheet where you want to insert the chart, and then click OK.
Method 3: Install Service Release 1 (SR-1) and Modify the Windows RegistryWARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. You may be able to resolve this problem by following these steps.
- Quit all Windows programs.

- After Service Release 1 (SR-1) is installed, click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK to run Registry Editor.
- Locate and select the following key (folder) in the left pane of Registry Editor:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Excel\Options - On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value. Type QFE_Nice to rename the value. Then, double-click the QFE_NICE value, and type 00000001 in the Value data box. Click OK.
- On the Registry menu, click Exit.
