OL2000: Outlook Cannot Import Eudora Messages When Eudora Mail Is Stored in a Non-Default Location (257354)

WORKAROUND

• For a small number of workstations, the behavior can be resolved by manually moving your Eudora messages to the default Eudora installation point:

  C:\Program Files\Eudora

  -or-

  Use REGEDIT to modify the Eudora registry setting to point to the non-default location where your Eudora messages are stored. This setting can be found under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE in the following registry key:

  SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\Eudora.exe

  Modify the value name "Path" (without quotation marks) to the name of the directory that contains the Eudora messages. After this has been done, Outlook 2000 can locate the Eudora messages when you import.

  -or-

• For a large number of workstations, use the Outlook 2000 Custom Install Wizard. To do this:
  1. Create a directory on a server that acts as the network administrative installation share point for Outlook 2000.
  2. Insert the Outlook 2000 CD-ROM in the server CD-ROM drive.
  3. Click Start, and then click Run. Type the following command in the Open box:

              msiexec /a <CDRom Drive Letter>:\data1.msi<BR/>
     						

     NOTE: The Data1.msi file is on the root of your Outlook CD-ROM.
     
     
  4. When you receive the prompt for the path to which you want to locate the administrative installation point, type the path of the directory that you have chosen on your file server.
  5. Install the Microsoft Office 2000 Resource Kit.
  6. Start the Custom Installation Wizard (CIW), and then select the default settings in the wizard until you reach step 10.
  7. In step 10, type in the following information for all of the entries:

     Root: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
     Data Type: REG_SZ
     Key: SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\Eudora.exe
     Value name: Path
     Value data: (Actual path to the location of Eudora mail files)

  8. Complete the CIW, and then save all of the settings in a Transform (MST) file called Eudora.mst. This file is placed in the Outlook 2000 administrative installation point.
  9. Install Outlook 2000 on the workstations by running Setup with the following command line using the MST file. The command line will be similar to:

     setup.exe TRANSFORMS=(path to administrative share point)\EUDORA.MST /qn+

  10. After you restart the workstation, create a new Outlook profile, and then start Outlook 2000.
  11. On the File menu, click Import and Export, click Import Internet Mail and Addresses, and then click Eudora to import your messages from Eudora to Outlook.
