This article was previously published under Q257330 SYMPTOMS
When you install the Microsoft SideWinder Game Controller software
that is included with the Microsoft SideWinder Force Feedback Pro game
controller, your computer may restart repeatedly before the Microsoft
Windows startup sequence is complete.
This behavior becomes an infinite loop and Windows does not start.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the following conditions are true:
- The SideWinder Force Feedback Pro is connected to the 15-pin
game port in your sound card.
- An XWave sound card is installed in your computer.
- The sound card is configured to use more than one Interrupt
Request (IRQ).
NOTE: The printed documentation that is provided with your computer
may describe the XWave sound card as a Labway PCI sound card with an XWave
chip set.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, configure the sound card to use only one IRQ:
- Shut down and turn off the computer.
- Disconnect the SideWinder Force Feedback Pro from the game port,
and then turn on the computer.
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click
Control Panel.
- Double-click System.
- Click the Device Manager tab.
- Click the PLUS SIGN (+) next to Sound,
Video, and Game Controllers to expand the branch.
- Click XWave SoundBlaster Device, and then click
Properties.
- On the General tab, click to select the
Disable in this hardware profile check
box.
- Click OK, and then click Close.
- Restart the computer.
