SYMPTOMS

When you click Current View on the View menu, and then click By Location to sort your contacts by country, the contacts for the local country may be displayed under the group None.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur for one of the following reasons:
  • The By Location option selects the country from the address that is checked in the This is the mailing address check box. If you did not select the local country in the This is the mailing address check box, the contact appears in the group "None" (without quotation marks).-or-

  • You import a contact that has the Business Country field set to the local country and you did not add any other address information. -or-

  • If the Address field is empty, Outlook cannot determine the mailing address and does not check the address after the import.

RESOLUTION

This behavior is by design.

WORKAROUND

Use one of the following methods to work around this behavior:
  • Create a custom view that groups by Business Address Country, by Home Business Country, or by Other Business Country depending on what country field you want to group by.-or-

  • Add a dummy value to another address field (for example, Business Country Street).-or-

  • Run a Visual Basic (VB) program that automatically selects the This is the mailing address check box for all contacts. For additional information, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

NOTE: Copy the Business Country to the Address field instead of the fields that are mentioned in this Microsoft KB article. -or-

  • Select a regional setting that is not contained in the import file as a country on the import computer.
