The first incorrect portion:

You should stop all Microsoft Exchange Server services before backing up any files. Restart Microsoft Exchange Server when the backup has finished.

To stop Exchange Server:

Open the Services utility.

Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Services.

Select Microsoft Exchange System Attendant.

Click Stop.

Click OK.

Click Close.

The second incorrect portion explains how to restart the services:

To start Microsoft Exchange Server.

Open the Services utility.

Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Services.

Select Microsoft Exchange System Attendant.

Click Start.

Click Close.

When you perform an online backup of Exchange Server, the Exchange Server services must be running in order for the Ntbackup to work properly. Stopping Exchange Server services is only necessary when you perform an offline backup.
