WD2000: Properties of Style Incorrect When You Use Organizer to Copy Styles (257235)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 2000

This article was previously published under Q257235

SYMPTOMS

If you use the Organizer to copy styles from one document to another, the properties of a style may be incorrect in the target document.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if one style is based on another style and the based-on style is copied after the first style. For example, if a style named List Bullet is based on the Normal style and you copy both styles, the List Bullet style is copied first, because it is listed first in the Organizer. The List Bullet style refers to the Normal properties in the original document, not the new properties of the Normal style copied over.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a).

To obtain SR-1/SR-1a, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

To temporarily work around this problem, copy the styles one at time, making sure that you copy the based-on styles before you copy additional styles.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1/SR-1a.
