Install Size Reported as "< 0.1 MB" When No Components Are Selected (257110)

SYMPTOMS

If you install a full installation of Internet Explorer 5.5, run Internet Explorer Setup again, choose a customized installation, and select no components, Setup reports the following size for the installation:

Total Install size: < 0.1MB.

If you click Next without selecting any components, you receive the following message:
The most recent versions of all items are already installed. It is recommended that you exit Setup without installing.
You can then either quit Setup or reinstall all components.

CAUSE

This issue is a reporting problem only; no additional components will be installed. The total installation size should show 0.0 MB.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue during Setup, select the components you want to install, or cancel Setup.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
