SYMPTOMS

When you save a .gif image file, the file may be saved as an unknown file type. If you try to open the saved file, the Open With dialog box may appear because no program is associated with the file you are trying to open.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the file name contains a period (or "dot") before the .gif file extension. For example, a file named "File.04.gif" displays this behavior.

RESOLUTION

After you open the Web page that contains the .gif file, click Save As on the File menu, and then click Web Page Complete.
