SYMPTOMS

When you use the Microsoft Office 2000 Custom Installation Wizard to install Microsoft Internet Explorer 5, the Show Internet Explorer 5 icon on the user's computer check box is selected and unavailable. This ensures that the Internet Explorer icon appears on the desktop.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when you click to select the Make Internet Explorer 5 the default browser check box in the wizard.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, remove the icon from the individual desktop after you complete the installation.
