SUMMARY

When you save log files using Performance Logs and Alerts, created log files stop at 1 GB when they are set to Maximum Limit (in the Log File Size section of the Log Files tab).

To facilitate the precise capturing of performance problems using Windows 2000 System Monitor, several new features are available so that 1-GB logs should be completely adequate for nearly all logging. These features include:
  • Binary Circular Files: Binary circular logging lets you select only one log file to be created. You must specify a maximum size. When this size is reached, the oldest data in the log is overwritten.
  • Log Scheduling: Logs can be started and stopped based on a time interval.
