PhD: Cannot Use Adobe PostScript Type 1 Fonts in PhotoDraw 2000 (256924)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft PhotoDraw 2000
  • Microsoft PhotoDraw 2000 2.0

This article was previously published under Q256924

SYMPTOMS

Adobe PostScript Type 1 fonts are not listed in the font list in Microsoft PhotoDraw 2000. Therefore, you cannot use Adobe PostScript Type 1 fonts in PhotoDraw 2000.

NOTE: You can use Adobe PostScript Type 1 in other Microsoft Office programs, such as Microsoft FrontPage and Microsoft Word.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because PhotoDraw 2000 does not support Adobe PostScript Type 1 fonts.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, use a TrueType font that is equivalent to the Adobe PostScript Type 1 font that you want to use.

MORE INFORMATION

PostScript and TrueType are outline font standards with openly available technical specifications. An outline font uses points, lines, and curves to describe letter shapes (glyphs).

To use PostScript fonts with current versions of Microsoft Windows, Adobe Type Manager must be installed on your computer.

Adobe Type Manager renders Adobe PostScript fonts to display PostScript characters properly on the screen or to print PostScript characters on a non-PostScript printer.

Although you do not need Adobe Type Manager to print PostScript fonts to PostScript printers, you do need Adobe Type Manager to display PostScript fonts accurately on the screen.

NOTE: Adobe Type Manager is included with many Adobe programs, as well as with all commercial Adobe typeface packages.
