MapPoint 2001: Error Message When You Click Map Shortcut in Pushpin (256816)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft MapPoint 2001, you may receive the following error message if you click a map shortcut in the text balloon of a pushpin
Unable to open "%|
file:\\shortcut".
where shortcut is the path to the map shortcut on the hard disk.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you created the map shortcut in MapPoint 2001.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, edit the map shortcut to refer to the map that you want to display.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft MapPoint 2001.
