PRJ2000: Messages Outside Specified Date Range Deleted in Project Central (256689)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project 2000

This article was previously published under Q256689

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project Central, when you delete a date range of messages from the Microsoft Project Central database, messages earlier than the date range that you specified may be deleted.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when you do the following:
  1. You log on to Microsoft Project Central as Administrator, or you log on with another user name that has been assigned the Administrator role.
  2. You open the Delete Items from Database page and choose to delete messages from the Microsoft Project Central database for a specific date range.
  3. You type an invalid beginning date (such as 04-33-00).
This behavior occurs because Microsoft Project Central does not validate the dates that you type in the Delete Items from Database page. When you type an invalid date for the beginning date in a date range, Microsoft Project Central ignores the invalid date, and may instead use the earliest date of any existing messages.

NOTE: If you chose the option to delete messages for only one user, only that user's messages are affected.

WORKAROUND

To avoid this behavior, verify the validity of dates that you type when you delete messages from the Microsoft Project Central database.

To work around this behavior, restore messages that have already been deleted, resend all messages from Microsoft Project, and then delete any unwanted messages (making sure to specify a valid date range). To resend all messages from Microsoft Project, follow these steps:
  1. In Microsoft Project, open a project for which you need to resend messages.
  2. On the Tools menu, point to Workgroup, and then click Resend All Messages.
  3. In the Workgroup Mail dialog box, make sure All tasks is selected, and then click OK.
  4. Repeat steps 1-3 in each project for which you need to resend messages.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
