PRJ2000: Crash When You Change Field Attributes for Outline Codes Externally (256672)

When you open a project from a database, Microsoft Project quits unexpectedly, and you receive one of the following error messages.
In Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me)
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the Problem persists, contact the program vendor.
If you click Details, you receive the following error message:
WINPROJ caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL at Address.
In Microsoft Windows NT
An application error has occurred and an application error log is being generated.
Winproj.exe Exception access violation Number, Address Address.
The instruction at "0x77f7d514" referenced memory at "Address". The memory could not be "written".
Click on OK to terminate the application.
In Microsoft Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows XP
No error message is displayed.
CAUSE
This behavior may occur when you manually edit the outline codes for a project that is saved to a database, and you use values that are not appropriate for the Outline Code field.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, verify that the field attributes that you are using are valid.
For more information about valid field attributes, see the ProjDB.htm file in the folder in which Microsoft Project is installed. By default, this folder is Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\1033.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
