Project Generated Status E-Mail Unreadable on Some E-Mail Clients (256632)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Site Server 3.0
This article was previously published under Q256632 SYMPTOMS
When project notification e-mail is sent from the publishing server, the receiving client may receive garbage characters. This happens primarily on wireless phones and pagers that receive e-mail.
CAUSE
The receiving client cannot process MIME encoding. Site Server version 3.0 sends MIME encoded e-mail rather than UUENCODE 7-bit e-mail, as in Site Server version 2.0.
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, use one of the following methods:
- Change to a paging or wireless-phone company that has an up-to-date client that understands how to decode MIME messages.-or-
- Send e-mail to an address using a current client to decode the MIME format, and then forward the mail though rule to the pager using UUENCODE.
