OLEXP: Cannot Change the Outlook Express Shortcut (256468)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to change any setting in the Outlook Express desktop shortcut or taskbar shortcut, you receive an "Access is denied" error message.

CAUSE

The Read-Only attribute is set on the Outlook Express shortcuts.

RESOLUTION

To remove the Read-Only attribute from the Outlook Express shortcut:
  1. Right-click the Outlook Express icon, and then click Properties.
  2. Click the General tab.
  3. Click to clear the Read-Only check box.
  4. Click OK.

The Read-Only attribute is set on the Outlook Express shortcuts to maintain compatibility with older versions of Microsoft Outlook.
